The Greater Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross was chartered 7 July 1916. Until 1941 when it moved into the Clement Mansion at 786 Delaware Ave., the Chapter did not have a permanent headquarters in Buffalo. During World War II, a military blood program was established at the Buffalo Chapter. In 1950, this became a civilian blood program with offices in the Clement building.
